CHILD OF THE SUN: The Expedition of Hernando de Soto

CHILD OF THE SUN aired on National Public Radio in 1994 and 1997 and is a five-part radion dramatization based on the expedition of Spanish conquistador Hernando de Soto across the American South beginning in 1539. The script by Robert Clem is based on the eyewitness account of an unnamed Portuguese 'gentleman of Elvas,' published in 1557. Narrated by Eli Wallach and featuring a music score by Donald Stark, the program includes a cast made up of Hispanic American actors and native Americans of the Choctaw and Cherokee tribes, both of whom were encountered by DeSoto in his search for treasure. Produced and directed by Robert Clem with support from the funders listed below.
